What Exactly Do

UX Designers Do?

I realized that after my previous post, people are wondering what are UX designers’ actual responsibilities in a company. How can they help you?

First, let’s look at what UX Design is.
Wikipedia take on what UX design means:

• User experience design (UXD or UED) is the process of enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty by improving the usability, ease of use, and pleasure provided in the interaction between the customer and the product.

What Are UX Designers

A much clearer explanation is that UX design is a human-first way of creating products. UX design is not only used propriety in Tech companies but it can be utilized in any industry. Here is a quick look at the UX designer’s responsibilities:

Strategy and Content:

• Competitor Analysis

• Customer Analysis

• Product Structure/Strategy

• Content Development

Wireframing and Prototyping:

• Wireframing

• Prototyping

• Testing/Iteration

• Development Planning

Execution and Analytics:

• Coordination with UI Designer(s)

• Coordination with Developer(s)

• Tracking Goals and Integration

• Analysis and Iteration

From the list, we can see that a UX designer is a part marketer, part designer, and part project manager. A complex, challenging and multi-faceted role that aims to merge the business goals to user’s needs by a process of validated learning through testing.

UX designers are often working with the founders or C-level to strategize and translate the vision of the products into an accessible format for their target customers. By understanding through experiments conducted on how customers would interact with the company and products, the designer would then propose the best “flow” or interaction journey for the customers.

To work effectively with a UX designer, the founders or stakeholders of the company have to be open to refinements and recommendation that the designer proposes. These refinements are backed by data from the user testing that the UX designer has conducted. Having a good UX designer will help you remove any “founder basis” or remove any assumptions. This will help to deliver a product experience that delights your customers
